Sales Engineer – Western US


Location: Western US (Remote/Flexible, West Coast preferred)


Mackinnon Bruce International is partnering with a leading manufacturer of industrial rotary shaft seals and related sealing solutions to recruit a Sales Engineer for the Western US. This is a strategic, hands-on role for a technically savvy sales professional with a strong engineering background, capable of developing new business, supporting distributors, and growing market share in key process and OEM industries.


Our client specializes in custom and standard rotary shaft seals designed to withstand high temperatures, rapid speeds, and abrasive materials. Their solutions support complex industrial machinery used across multiple sectors, including food processing, chemical, pharmaceutical, plastics, mining, and packaging industries.


About the Role

This is a technical sales position requiring both engineering expertise and a strong consultative sales approach. The Sales Engineer will be a trusted partner to customers, providing custom solutions and leveraging the company’s durable, high-performance seals to meet demanding operational requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Market Development & Sales Growth

  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business across the Western US territory
  • Expand and nurture relationships with distributors, manufacturer representatives, and end-users
  • Conduct sales calls, plant surveys, and site visits to understand customer requirements and machinery applications.


Technical Consultation & Solutions Design

  • Apply deep knowledge of rotary shaft seals, radial seals, and custom sealing solutions to provide expert guidance
  • Collaborate with customers and internal engineering teams to design solutions for mixers, conveyors, blenders, and other industrial equipment
  • Recommend seals for applications involving high temperature, high speed, abrasive materials, and rigorous industrial processes
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to ensure accurate solutions


Customer & Distributor Support

  • Serve as a primary technical resource for distributors and reps, providing training, product guidance, and ongoing support
  • Represent the company professionally at trade shows, industry events, and customer meetings
  • Review and resolve customer concerns promptly to maintain strong, long-term partnerships


Sales Pipeline Management

  • Manage the full sales cycle, from lead generation and quotes to closing orders
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, forecast sales, and provide territory reporting
  • Collaborate with management on strategic planning, pipeline development, and sales goals


Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of B2B outside sales experience with a proven track record of exceeding targets
  • Strong engineering or technical background (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Expertise in industrial machinery and components such as rotary shaft seals, mixers, blenders, conveyors, and other processing equipment
  • Proven ability to develop custom solutions for challenging industrial applications
  • Proficiency with CRM software (HubSpot, Salesforce), SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex industrial processes
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and travel 30–40% of the time


Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience selling to process industries such as food processing, pharmaceutical, chemical, plastics, pulp & paper, mining, packaging, and related OEM sectors
  • Track record of building distributor and OEM relationships
  • Experience managing territory sales and pipeline reporting
  • Leadership or mentorship experience within a sales teaM


Territory

  • Western US: WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, UT, CO, AZ, NV, CA
  • Travel expectation: 30–40% with periodic visits to headquarters
