Our client is an industry leader within the US fragrance sector and growing rapidly.
As a Perfumer and team leader, you will be responsible for creating unique and appealing fragrances for a variety of products, such as perfumes, colognes, cosmetics, and household items, while also leading and inspiring a team of talented perfumers. This role requires a deep understanding of scent composition, artistic creativity, and a passion for staying updated on fragrance trends. You will remain hands-on in your own creative work while setting the strategic direction for the team and collaborating with cross-functional departments — including marketing and product development — to ensure that all output aligns with brand objectives and customer preferences.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of perfumers, fostering a collaborative and creatively driven environment. Set clear objectives for the team, providing guidance and feedback to support both individual and collective development. Drive the creative strategy of the team, ensuring a consistent and high standard of fragrance output across all projects. Balance hands-on creative contribution with the day-to-day management of team workload, priorities, and deadlines.
- Scent Development: Create and develop fragrance formulas by combining various essential oils, aroma chemicals, and other ingredients. Experiment with different scent combinations to achieve unique and harmonious fragrance profiles.
- Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, consumer preferences, and emerging raw materials to guide fragrance development. Analyze market competitors and consumer feedback to identify opportunities for innovation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product development, and quality control, to ensure that fragrance aligns with overall product goals. Collaborate with clients or internal stakeholders to understand specific fragrance requirements for new products.
- Quality Control: Conduct sensory evaluations to assess the quality and consistency of fragrance samples. Collaborate with quality control teams to address any issues related to fragrance performance or stability.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of fragrance formulas, ensuring accurate documentation for future reference and replication. Keep abreast of regulatory requirements related to fragrance ingredients and labeling.
- Trend Analysis: Monitor and analyze global fragrance trends, incorporating insights into the development of new scents. Propose innovative fragrance concepts that align with current and future market demands.
- Training and Education: Provide training and education to internal teams or clients on fragrance characteristics, development processes, and industry trends. Stay updated on advancements in fragrance technology and share knowledge with the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Perfumery, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Perfumer in the fragrance industry, with a minimum of 10 years post-training.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, with previous management experience preferred but not essential.
- In-depth knowledge of raw materials, essential oils, and aroma chemicals.
- Strong creative and artistic skills with an ability to translate concepts into fragrances.
- Excellent olfactory abilities and sensory evaluation skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining high-quality standards.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards.
