Mechanical Designer
Location: Remote
Our client, a leading global OEM within the bakery processing equipment industry, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join their engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled design professional to contribute to the development, improvement, and modernisation of complex industrial equipment used within the bakery sector. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, service, and product teams to deliver high-quality design solutions that improve equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Role Overview:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager / Product Line Manager, the Mechanical Designer will be responsible for creating, updating, and developing mechanical drawing packages for a range of equipment projects. The role will involve supporting new product development, enhancing existing designs, and modernising legacy equipment to meet evolving customer and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Design
- Develop detailed mechanical drawing packages for new, existing, and upgraded equipment solutions.
- Create and modify designs based on customer specifications, project requirements, and engineering standards.
- Ensure all designs meet manufacturing requirements, performance expectations, and applicable industry standards.
- Support product improvements, design optimisation, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Integrate proprietary components and equipment into effective design solutions.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, service, and product teams to improve design efficiency and project delivery.
- Support the organisation and maintenance of legacy design files and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the engineering function.
- Contribute technical expertise to improve equipment performance and reliability.
Customer Site Visits & Data Collection
- Travel to customer sites as required to gather technical information and support design projects.
- Assess existing equipment installations and develop modernised design solutions.
- Collaborate directly with project leads and customers to understand requirements and communicate technical solutions effectively.
Candidate Requirements
- 2+ years’ experience within mechanical design, CAD drafting, or industrial equipment design.
- Strong proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Experience designing industrial machinery, automated equipment, or food processing systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of modern manufacturing methods and mechanical design principles.
- Ability to analyse existing designs and develop practical improvement solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable with occasional domestic and international travel (approximately 10–20%).
