Description
Seeking an experienced Principal Geologist to provide technical leadership and geological support across a portfolio of operating mines and advanced development projects throughout Africa.
Based in Abu Dhabi, this role will work closely with site geology teams, technical services, and corporate leadership to optimise geological models, improve resource confidence, and support mine planning and operational decision-making. The successful candidate will combine extensive hands-on field experience with strong technical expertise in resource geology and operational mining.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical geological support to multiple mining operations across Africa.
- Lead geological reviews, site visits, and technical audits to ensure best practice across exploration and mine geology activities.
- Mentor and develop site-based geologists, promoting consistent geological standards and continuous improvement.
- Review and validate geological models, resource interpretations, and grade control practices.
- Support resource estimation, reconciliation, and reserve conversion activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve orebody understanding, resource confidence, and mining performance.
- Work closely with mine planning, metallurgy, and operations teams to optimise extraction strategies.
- Assist with due diligence, technical studies, and evaluations of new project opportunities.
- Ensure geological work complies with industry reporting standards and company governance.
- Travel regularly to operations across West, East, and Central Africa.
Requirements
- BSc in Geology or Earth Sciences (MSc preferred).
- 12+ years' experience in mining geology, resource geology, or operational geology.
- Significant hands-on field geology experience within hard rock mining operations.
- Strong background in open pit and/or underground gold, copper, base metals, or critical minerals.
- Demonstrated experience in geological modelling, resource estimation, and grade control.
